The TEAM project ran for a period of 48 months and started in November 2012 and ended in October 2016. Find below a timeline of our project events and results.

    • TEAM final event successfully held in Berlin - “Collaboration for tomorrow’s mobility” realised today

      Berlin, Germany, 18 October 2016. Dissemination activity

      More than 110 representatives from industry and academia from all over Europe joined the final event of TEAM, the major European research project on collaborative mobility. The final event took place on October 18-19, 2016 at the German test site in Berlin with connected demonstrations from the other test sites in Italy, Greece, Sweden, and Finland.

      The TEAM project delivered and presented the building blocks for the development of collaborative mobility, show cased through 11 TEAM applications – all of them functioning throughout Europe and being multi-vendor capable. Furthermore, common to all TEAM apps is the fundamental collaborative thought meaning that they incorporate individual needs while at the same time also addressing the overall needs of the city.

      Project coordinator Dr. Ilja Radusch explains: “Road users are not as egoistic as one might think. First acceptance studies in the project have shown that people like to do something good if they are given concrete suggestions and positive feedback. TEAM thereby creates a greater awareness about how my personal mobility behavior influences the total traffic.”

      In five countries all over Europe these apps were presented and challenged: users and experts in Berlin, Gothenburg, Tampere, Turin and Trento, and in Athens and Trikala were able to experience the novel collaborative mobility.

      All keynote speakers Irmgard Heiber, European Commission, Dorothee Bär, Vice Minister at the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure and Stephan Neugebauer, Chairman of European Road Transport Research Advisory Council (ERTRAC) and Director Global Research Cooperation at BMW AG, emphasized the necessity of cross-sector collaboration for digital innovations in mobility and gave an outlook on mobility programmes and visions for the near future.

      Following the keynotes, explaining collaborative mobility and the required building blocks were at the centre of the two days event: guests used the possibility for live demonstration of TEAM apps on-site and on public roads in Berlin. Furthermore, guests visited dedicated booths for each TEAM app along with other TEAM results such as LDM++ and Cooperative Positioning. From Greece, the demonstration collaborative public transport optimisation (CPTO) was streamed live from the streets of Trikala with travellers summoning a dynamically re-scheduled bus. Test sites results from Italy, Sweden and Finland were presented during the TEAM Final Event conference with videos about the tests that had been executed in the respective areas.

      The TEAM project has established links to many different stakeholder groups as required by the variety and broadness of the technologies needed for the implementation of elastic mobility: automotive and ICT industry, infrastructure suppliers, research institutes and European organisations, bodies and authorities. It is only by the dialogue among them that further development and deployment can succeed. Therefore, interaction was a key factor of the event: A workshop on business perspectives involved all participants in defining scenarios for realisations of TEAM apps. During the second day working groups got into discussing the long-term perspectives of urban mobility in a time horizon up to 2030.

      At the end of the conference where partners discussed the findings and results of TEAM in a panel discussion with representatives from politics, industry and public transportation came to outline the horizons of future mobility: from shared economy up to new service models.

    • Collaborative TEAM applications for the future of mobility

      Imagine that your navigation system not only knows your route, but also the entire traffic of the city!

      The video of the EU-project TEAM – Tomorrow’s Elastic Adaptive Mobility – shows how collaborative mobility works. Collaborative mobility incorporates our individual needs while at the same time maintaining the overall optimum of the traffic situation. The TEAM project developed eleven collaborative applications which turn static into elastic mobility by joining drivers, travellers and infrastructure operators together into one collaborative network.

    • Simulation demonstrates public transport route optimization

      Passengers and cities need an efficient public transport network, with reduced emissions at minimal operating costs. The TEAM app CPTO (Collaborative public transport optimisation) solves this challenge by providing a computation of optimal bus routes and timetables. It increases the flexibility of the public transport buses by adapting it to the demands and needs of both the city and citizens. On the basis of this input, the system can optimise bus schedules in long and short term. For example, it can adapt routes based on traffic and accidents and add or skip bus stops. Furthermore, it provides information to the traveller. The result is a more flexible and better organised network in the city.

    • TEAM inspires a special issue of a top journal

      Collaborative driving has increasingly shifted into the focus of information technology and transportation research. As an outstanding initiative in the field, TEAM has promoted a special issue on the IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, a top ranked peer-reviewed scientific journal published by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) society.

      Latest advancements in sensing and computing technologies in automotive have led to the development of highly effective driver assistance systems, improving vehicle control, safety, traffic efficiency and reducing environmental impact.

      Benefits are further magnified by exploiting communication among vehicles and with the road infrastructure. Vehicles are equipped with sensors that are able to share various and detailed information, significantly widening the awareness horizon of each single car. In addition to that the active participation of drivers is increasing to elevate simple cooperative driving to true collaborative driving.

      Availability of such a dynamically distributed system also represents a valuable reduction in costs with respect to stand-alone systems. Furthermore, collaborative systems represent a significant step towards autonomous driving, especially in areas with high traffic densities.

      A wide range of new services and applications are being enabled by vehicular cooperation, supporting better safety and navigation, driver behaviour improvement and coaching, traffic efficiency and emission reduction. A true collaborative approach adds significance to the driver’s and travellers’ role, thus substantially increasing the potential and variety of the offered services – with safety and security-related issues as well.

      The special issue solicits papers describing applications, systems, platforms, and techniques for collaborative driving.

      The deadline for the submissions is September 30th, 2016. The guest editorial team involves Ilja Radusch, of Fraunhofer Fokus, coordinator of TEAM, and Francesco Bellotti, of the University of Genoa, TEAM WP leader of the automotive collaborative application development.

    • TEAM @ The Long Night of Science 2016

      Berlin, Germany, 11 June 2016. Dissemination activity

      TEAM was again present at the "Long Night of Science" which took place this time in Berlin. At this night event, from 5pm until midnight, more than 70 research institutions explained their work to a large public audience. Opening universities, campuses and companies for this yearly night event provides a special atmosphere and results in a very large response with 29 000 attendants overall.

      TEAM presented specifically the CONAV application on a simulator at the Technical University of Berlin and explained system and technology to the audience. Moreover, people could be part of the testings and give feedback on the different routing options that were provided. Posters, TEAM give-aways and flyers complemented the exhibition. Especially the driving simulator was again highly frequented - especially by younger attendants.

    • TEAM presentation @ ITS Glasgow

      The TEAM consortium successfully organised a Special Session in the framework of the 11th ITS European Congress under the title: SIS24 "Smart Multimodal Journey Planners and Traveller Information Services for Urban Mobility". The session was held on Wednesday 8 June 2016, in Glasgow, with the participation of representatives from MyWay, MOVEUS, PETRA, & STREETLIFE projects and the European Commission. SIS24 had an attendance of approximately 45 experts.

      The purpose of the TEAM session was not only to disseminate the current implementations and latest advances in smart multimodal journey planners and traveller information services but to serve also as a platform for all related stakeholders to exchange knowledge, investigate further collaboration opportunities and discuss the challenges and issues that need to be studied in order to address the growing needs of travellers and to result in an overall improved mobility for urban environments.

      The session was moderated by Dr. Panagiotis Lytrivis, Senior Researcher of ICCS and the following presentations have been performed by well-known experts:

      All SIS 24 attendees were invited to the TEAM final event, to be held in Berlin on October 18 and 19, 2016.

      In addition, TEAM was also presented by Florian Haeusler, Fraunhofer FOKUS, during another Special Interest Session (SIS25) that was also held on Wednesday, 8 June 2016 under the theme: "ITS technology merge towards a unified sustainable transport system". The session was organised and moderated by Dr. Angelos Amditis, ICCS, and was also well attended.

    • Euro-Eco Challenge in Tampere, Finland

      One part of the Euro-Eco Challenge activities took also place in Tampere, Finland. During this challenge the three TEAM apps CONAV (Collaborative eco-friendly navigation), EFP (Colaborative eo-friendly parking), and SG-CB (Serious gaming - community building) were tested and evaluated by 26 different test users.

    • Euro-Eco Challenge in Trikala, Greece

      Trikala, Greece, 17 May 2016. Euro-Eco Challenge activities

      The Euro-Eco Challenge activities have been launched in the Greek city of Trikala and citizens are using the TEAM applications to make their everyday trips in the city. The demonstration that began on mid-February performs a set of challenges for the participants in Trikala to be completed. The first challenge for the participants is to use the TEAM CCA app for a period of three weeks to perform their every day trips in an eco-friendly way. The second challenge for the participants is to perform their everyday bus trips in a collaborative and efficient way through the use of the TEAM CPTO app. The challenges are also part of a collaborative gamification aspect, which is one of the central features of TEAM. In this way, the SG-CB app is expected to support the users in performing these challenges.     • TEAM @ Greek Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks

      Athens, Greece, 9 May 2016. Euro-Eco Challenge activities

      A workshop dedicated to TEAM entitled: "Elastic Collaborative Mobility and applications: Towards the improvement of the Urban Mobility System" was successfully held, on Friday 20 May, 2016 at the Hellenic Ministry of Infrastructure Transport and Networks facilities. The Workshop was organised by ICCS in the framework of the TEAM Euro Eco Challenge activities aiming on the promotion and evaluation of the 11 TEAM applications developed and tested on the TEAM pilot sites located in 8 European cities (Athens, Trikala, Berlin, Torino, Trento, Gothenburg, Tampere, and Helsinki).

      During this Workshop the Greek partners of TEAM, i.e. ICCS, e-Trikala, INFOTRIP and COSMOTE, presented the TEAM applications to several Greek stakeholders, including road operators, public transport operators/companies and private ITS companies as well as national authorities and collected their opinion and evaluation for the TEAM applications that are implemented in Greece through a series of respective questionnaires. The responses of the stakeholders will be used by the Greek pilot site partners to further shade light to both the evaluation of the TEAM applications but also to understand the potential for their future deployment.

    • TEAM Business Modelling Workshop

      Berlin, Germany, 20 April 2016. Announcement

      This 1-day workshop was designed to extend TEAM’s reach to both individuals and teams from businesses and organisations across Europe. This was a facilitated workshop giving emphasis on storytelling, a powerful way to make ideas concrete and actionable. In this workshop, TEAM combined the Business Model Canvas with other innovative techniques in order to inspire participants to begin testing, evaluating and refining developed TEAM business models from workshop I. To this end, the event featured panel discussions with topics ranging from complex mobility issues, TEAM’s up-to-date information on technical results and new business models. TEAM thanks all participants and organisers for the energy and really good suggestions and is looking forward to keeping you updated.

    • TEAM 3rd Annual Technical Review

      Gothenburg, Sweden, 10 March 2016. Review

      On this third review, European Commission experts were invited to Sweden to experience an impressive driving demonstration on the AstaZero test site near Gothenburg. TEAM demonstrated several applications there, for example collaborative adaptive cruise control (C-ACC). Through this application, traffic flow can be optimised. Three test vehicles by TEAM partners BMW, JLR and DCAITI were involved on the test site. C-ACC reduced velocity corresponding to TEAM messages about weather conditions and construction site locations. Therefore, TEAM technology allows wireless communication between vehicles and Infrastructure to harmonize driving speed and thereby achieving a positive impact on road safety and traffic efficiency.

      Moreover, even trucks were involved in the tests. These heavyweight vehicles by TEAM partner VOLVO are also part of several team applications, for example the collaborative dynamic corridors (DC) application. TEAM establishes here corridors for heavy vehicles, being trucks or buses, in a dynamic way. In addition, TEAM is able to give priorities to heavyweight vehicles when needed (CSI application), assist with vehicle merging (CDM application) and collaboratively adapt speed of the trucks (C-ACC).

      Overall, the work carried out during this year was again much appreciated by the experts who are seeing TEAM on a safe way to an excellent conclusion of the project. The live demonstration was complemented by presentations, videos and discussions.

    • TEAM Euro-EcoChallenge @Italy

      Turin, Italy, 16 February 2016. Announcement

      The Euro-EcoChallenge is a Europe-wide test for TEAM applications, from October 2015 to May 2016. The main goal is to test and show how the TEAM apps are responding to mobility challenges in five European countries: Italy, Germany, Greece, Finland and Sweden.

      In Italy, applications are specifically tested in the city of Turin. Turin is an important business and cultural centre that covers a metropolitan area of around 2.2 million inhabitants. From 16-19 February, five TEAM applications perform the Euro-EcoChallenge with the support of the TEAM Italian partners: 5T, CRF, SWARCO MIZAR, Telecom Italia, University of Genova, Re:Lab. Together with instructed drivers, users will experience the following applications in the city area:

      • Collaborative urban monitoring and ad-hoc control

      This application can build a comprehensive picture of the traffic situation. In Turin, the Traffic Supervising System has been updated along a specific main road to allow in-vehicle availability of Signal Phase and Timing Information. Moreover, six subsequent road junction controllers have been updated and re-configured in their connection with the monitoring centre.

      • Collaborative eco-friendly parking and collaborative driving and merging

      These applications help drivers to easily detect parking spaces and get informed about potential risks through other vehicles while driving. Test areas are in Orbassano, nearby Turin, and include public roads and selected parking areas.

      • Co-modal coaching with support from virtual avatar users

      This application provides a virtual coach to travellers. Tests are conducted in public areas in the whole city of Turin.

      • Serious gaming and community building

      This application provides a social gaming environment through the use of collaborative TEAM applications. Drivers and travellers are building a community where data can be shared, for example about parking and navigation. This enables community participants to get a higher community reputation and corresponding virtual coins. Tests are also conducted in the whole city of Turin.

    • TEAM at the ITS Hellas Conference

      Athens, Greece, 15 December 2015. Dissemination activity

      The TEAM project activities were presented during a conference that was organised by ITS Hellas-“Hellenic Intelligent Transport Systems” with the support of the Hellenic Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks on Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th of December 2015 at the Ministry facilities, in Athens, Greece.

      Specifically, the TEAM project activities were presented during the two-day exhibition that was held in parallel with the Conference. ICCS as one of the exhibitors had the chance to inform the visitors about the Greek pilot status and upcoming Euro-Eco Challenge activities in Greece. TEAM was also presented in the framework of a rolling presentation describing ICCS overall activities that was displayed through a screen placed on the stand.

      In addition, the Trikala pilot activities of the TEAM project were presented by the TEAM partners INFOTRIP and SWARCO during the first day of the conference in the framework of a session focusing on Cooperative Transport Systems.

      The ITS Hellas conference attracted approximately 150 participants from private and public institutions, local and national governmental and management authorities, academic and research community, manufacturers, other professionals and end users associations. It can be considered as one of the most dynamic meetings of the Transport area in Greece for 2015.

    • TEAM @ Gala Conference 2015 Workshop on Games for Mobility and Intelligent Transportation Systems (G4MITS)

      Rome, Italy, 10 December 2015. Dissemination activity

      Two TEAM related papers have been presented during a workshop on Games for Mobility and Intelligent Transportation Systems (G4MITS) that was organised in conjunction with the Gala Conference 2015 on December 2015 in Rome. The G4M workshop was co-organised by TEAM partners UNIGE and FOKUS with the goal to provide a meeting point for researchers, practitioners, managers and transport operator and manufacturers in order to present, analyse and discuss the latest achievements and trends in the field of serious games and gamification for mobility and transportation systems.

      The first paper entitled: “A Smart Mobility Serious Game Concept and Business Development Study” presents the concept of a serious game aimed at creating an ecosystem for connected, collaborative and green mobility. The ecosystem is based on rewarding proper user behavior through virtual and/or real-world incentives. The basis is provided by a seamlessly extensible set of apps allowing assessment of user behaviour according to criteria that are related to green and collaborative mobility. The ecosystem is particularly suited to the promotion of new mobility services. Users could be rewarded through incentives such as discounts from public authorities, mobility service providers, insurances. This is particularly interesting for companies willing to stay in constant contact with their customers to improve their products and services. While the system has been developed for mobility-based games, the infrastructure is generally applicable and may be used in a variety of domains.

      The second paper entitled “The absolute and social comparative analysis of driver performance on a simulated road network” provides information on a comparative analysis module performed by the authors to estimate the driver performance based on absolute and social comparisons. In this evaluation approach, a road network of 40 vehicle users was simulated and the performance of the users was analysed by their interlinked system architecture dedicated for simulation, data sharing and representation of the entire information on a Map-based user interface. Another key aspect performed was the usage of a Map-Matching module to discard the inaccuracies in Geo-references while representing the coordinates on Google Maps. This approach is expected to broaden the overview of performance analysis and provide more insight to the user on all driving standards.

    • TEAM article published in German traffic safety brochure

      Brandenburg, Germany, 1 November 2015. Dissemination activity

      The forum traffic safety of the German region of Brandenburg represents governmental as well as non-governmental institutions and associations to discuss and analyse instruments that increase regional traffic safety. Three working groups examine the thematic areas “Human environment”, “Transport routes” and “Technical aspects” to advise policy makers on traffic safety-related questions. In 2014, TEAM already presented its vision of elastic mobility to an audience of state-level infrastructure operators and police forces. This was now complemented by a general article about TEAM in a brochure which was distributed to the members of the forum. Target audience of the publication is for example the ADAC (General German Automobile Association) or regional ministries and authorities.

    • TEAM @ The Long Night of Science 2015

      Nuremberg, Germany, 24 October 2015. Dissemination activity

      TEAM was present on the INTEL booth at the “Long Night of Science” which took place in the German cities of Nuremberg, Fürth and Erlangen. At this night event, from 6pm until 1am, more than 350 research institutions provided insights and explained topics like medical engineering or information technology to a large public audience.

      Opening universities, campuses and companies for this recurring night event provides a special atmosphere and results in a very large response with around 30 000 attendants. INTEL as partner of the TEAM Project presented interim results of the project on the INTEL booth at the Technical University Nuremberg (Wassertorstraße 10, first floor). The general focus was on the technical project infrastructure. In addition to a poster exhibition, the audience could also experience a driving simulator which was highly frequented- especially by younger attendants.

      At the booth, participants could learn how cars become more and more intelligent: they can exchange traffic information, notify about incidents but also help to plan safer and more efficient ways of driving. In order to achieve this, cars should talk to each other and to the infrastructure on which they drive. Therefore, a road side unit was developed and presented in Nuremberg that can communicate with a car over Wi-Fi and simultaneously over mobile broadband (LTE) to TEAM cloud services. This allows a car to receive information from traffic lights, road signs or even the highway itself and sets the ground for new mobility applications.

    • TEAM General Assembly and Business Modelling Workshop

      Berlin, Germany, 22 October 2015.

      TEAM coordinator Dr. Ilja Radusch, Fraunhofer FOKUS, welcomed all consortium partners to the third General Assembly meeting of the project which was expanded the next day by a business modelling workshop. On Thursday, 22 October, the General Assembly monitored the progress of the project goals and decided on next steps and planning. More specifically, Integration Manager Samson Tsegay, SWARCO, presented the latest developments concerning the integration of TEAM applications into the test sites and highlighted the upcoming integration workshops. In addition, Merja Penttinen, VTT, provided an update about the Euro-EcoChallenge status and the testing and events to be organised at the TEAM test sites. Furthermore, all 28 project partners gave specific insights into their work performed during the year and presented an outlook.

      On Friday, 23 October, all partners rolled up their sleeves for a business modelling workshop which was organised by EICT. The idea was to discuss business ideas and potential business models derived from the TEAM applications already at a very early stage. After a methodological introduction and a presentation of four selected applications, the attendants passed four stations where value propositions, potential customers, necessary infrastructure as well as finance were examined. At the end, each group presented their potential business model which will be further discussed at upcoming workshops. All partners agreed that this common activity was a great tool to lead TEAM applications on their way to the market.

    • TEAM and MyWay @ Technical University Berlin

      Berlin, Germany, 22 October 2015. Liaison activity

      The European research projects TEAM and MyWay joined their forces at the Technical University Berlin and informed about the latest mobility services applications. Moreover, students could register for upcoming demonstration events, where they can experience future mobility solutions. In front of the main auditorium, which gives a high visibility, both projects had a joint booth and intensively talked to around 100 interested students. This resulted in about 20 registrations on that day. It is planned to continue such activities to recruit users for upcoming tests and events.

    • TEAM @ 22nd ITS World Congress

      Bordeaux, France, 6 October 2015. Dissemination activity

      The TEAM project attended the ITS World Congress 2015, the world’s largest event in intelligent transport systems and services. In the Stakeholder Workshop "Moving ideas from the research lab to production" (SW3), Pirkko Rämä from TEAM partner VTT presented the role of evaluation research in the project and how it helps to transform scientific research into commercial products. The session was held on Tuesday, 6 October 2015 from 17:15-18:45 (Hall 1 Expo- ITS Forum). Moreover, the TEAM project was present at the SWARCO booth (Exhibition Area- Stand F32).

    • TEAM paper presentations at IEEE ITSC 2015

      Canary Islands, Spain, 17 September 2015. Dissemination activity

      Two TEAM related papers have been presented during the 18th edition of the IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems - (ITSC 2015), the annual flagship conference of the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society gathering a wide number of ITS and mobility experts.

      The first paper entitled “Recursive State Estimation for Lane Detection Using a Fusion of Cooperative and Map Based Data” has been presented by FOKUS partners during a session focusing on Cooperative Techniques and Systems II that was held on Thursday 17 September. The paper that is already published in the respective conference proceedings (DOI 10.1109/ITSC.2015.352) presents an algorithm to accurately infer the driving lane by utilising Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) and map data alone. The authors evaluate their approach against simulated and real-life data from Europe’s largest cooperative vehicle Field Operational Test (FOT): simTD. This lane detection algorithm will be an enabler for CoDAS functions like collaborative driving and merging developed in the TEAM IP project.

      The second paper entitled “Fast Hidden Markov Model Map-Matching for Sparse and Noisy Trajectories” has been presented by AIT partners, on Friday 18 September during the “Data Management and Geographic Information Systems I” session. This paper with DOI 10.1109/ITSC.2015.411 addresses the problem of map-matching sparse and noisy GPS trajectories to road networks. A common state-of-the-art solution to this problem relies on a Hidden Markov Model (HMM) to identify the most plausible road sequence for a given trajectory. While this approach has been shown to work well on sparse and noisy data, the algorithm has a high computational complexity and becomes slow when working with large trajectories and extended search radii. Through this paper the authors propose an optimization to the original approach which significantly reduces the number of state transitions that need to be evaluated in order to identify the correct solution. In experiments with publicly available benchmark data, the proposed optimization yields nearly identical map-matching results as the original algorithm, but reduces the algorithm runtime by up to 45%. They also demonstrate that the effects of their optimization become more pronounced when dealing with larger problem spaces and indicate how their approach can be combined with other recent optimizations to further reduce the overall algorithm runtime.

    • TEAM @ EUCAR Strategic Pillar of Safe and Integrated Mobility Program Board Meeting

      The TEAM IP was presented by its Coordinator, Dr. Ilja Radusch (Fraunhofer FOKUS), during the Strategic Pillar of Safe and Integrated Mobility (SIM) Program Board meeting that was organised by EUCAR in its facilities in Brussels, on September 2015.

      The SIM Program Board meeting is an annual meeting aiming at monitoring the progress of the EUCAR R&I projects from the industry point of view. The objectives are to ensure necessary collaboration among EUCAR R&I Projects, to provide interaction with the European Commission and other relevant stakeholders and to exploit synergies.

      During the 2015 SIM Board meeting, that was attended by approximately 15 key stakeholders, short presentations of the EUCAR SIM Expert Groups were held and European Commission officers were invited to discuss opportunities for Safe and Integrated Mobility R&I in Horizon 2020. In addition, several EUCAR R&D project presentations were performed by the respective Coordinators (i.e. AutoNet2030, AdaptIVe, PIPER, DESERVE, UDRIVE, ECODRIVER). For TEAM, Dr. Ilja Radusch provided a general overview of the project and presented its main research activities. In addition, he presented the expected project results and how these could be applied to market production. At the end of his speech, he identified the research needs and provided his proposals to the new research directions in the SIM topics that the TEAM project is addressing.

      Following the different project presentations, a strategic discussion on the SIM domain was held with contributions by the external mentors.

    • TEAM @1st MyWay Collaboration Workshop

      This workshop brought together a number of projects addressing the RTD area of integrated mobility solutions: MyWay, MoveUS, STREETLIFE, MoveSmart, Petra, Simpli-City and TEAM. Presentations about all projects as well as discussion rounds enabled the exchange of information about ongoing activities. Andreas Schwarz from EICT gave an overview on the developments in TEAM. In the following discussions several topics were addressed, for example "Pilot Implementation and User Engagement".

      The ApplePies International Conference (Applications in Electronics Pervading Industry, Environment and Society) is held yearly at the University of Rome, La Sapienza. The Conference intends to provide an opportunity of reciprocal meeting and knowledge on industrial and research activities for academicians, practitioners, and managers who operate in the field of electronic applications. Industrial liaisons and business-academy dialogue and collaborations are specifically targeted. The program involves presentations about original research works and achievements and panels and discussions on the latest trends in electronic applications. TEAM presented there an assessment of driver behavior based on machine learning approaches in a social gaming scenario.

    • TEAM @IEEE 81st Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC) 2015-Spring

      On May 13th, Dr. Nitin Maslekar from TEAM partner NEC presented a novel system and mechanism for information dissemination in a poster session at the VTC 2015 spring conference. Based on virtual infrastructure selection in combination with multiple communication technologies, the potential benefits are improved network utilization through the offload of traffic to the short-range communication network. In general, a vehicular network allows cars to connect to each other and it creates a mobile network with a wide range for every participating car.

    • TEAM 2nd Annual Technical Review

      Berlin, Germany, 26 March 2015. Review

      On this review, European Commission experts were invited to gain hands-on experience of the TEAM systems. Therefore, the demonstration centre at Fraunhofer FOKUS in Berlin was made "ready for action": central station, vehicles, roadside units and mobile devices were connected to a real-time simulation network while all information was shared on several screens. Sven Kopetzki from TEAM partner DELPHI led through the live demonstration and explained the different aspects of the EMPOWER components in TEAM which provide the technological basis and foundation for the TEAM applications.

      The work carried out during this year was much appreciated by the experts, who provided TEAM with valuable insights and feedback that will guide the TEAM-work during this third year of the project. The reviewers highlighted the outstanding technical results TEAM has achieved so far. The live demonstration was complemented by presentations, videos and discussions.

    • EMPOWER review preparation meeting

      Berlin, Germany, 25 February 2015. Project meeting

      During a preparation meeting for the 2nd Annual Technical Review in March, developers from the sub-project "EMPOWER" met in Berlin to validate scenarios for visual demonstration. EMPOWER provides the technological basis for the TEAM project. It researches and develops the necessary foundation to implement the applications to be developed. The rooms at the Fraunhofer FOKUS building in Berlin were packed with technology: vehicle units were connected to road side units so that the information management components could be tested and reviewed. After two days of continuous testing and briefing, the meeting was successfully finished by a dry run and final adjustments.

    • ITS and Smart Cities 2014

      Katia Pagle and Angelos Amditis from the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS), Greece, presented a technical paper entitled: "Application of Collaborative and Elastic Transport Solutions in Greece" during the ITS and Smart Cities 2014 Conference that was held in Patras on 19-22 November 2015. During the presentation the innovative concept of elastic mobility was described focusing on the cases of Athens and Trikala cities. The study on these cities was carried out by ICCS, INFOTRIP, COSMOTE and eTRIKALA.

    • Successful Integration: The 2nd TEAM Plug Test

      Torino, 4 November 2014. The 2nd TEAM Plug Test

      During the second TEAM plug test, developers from 18 partners were invited to Torino, Italy. In 17 different sessions, components were brought together and successfully tested for proper inter-working. All participants were excited about the results, looking forward to the next steps. "This is a team", said Luisa Andreone from CRF, who hosted the meeting.

      One important topic in Torino was the exchange of broadcast messages and positioning data. Therefore, hardware components were initialized and all external interfaces were enabled. The road side units (RSU) can communicate over Wi-Fi with the communication control unit in the cars and simultaneously with the cloud over mobile broadband (LTE). The RSU hardware platform is considered to be "ready for use", stated Peter Schaefer from INTEL. Now TEAM is continuing work on the software applications that are planned to be added in the next work packages.

      Vienna, Austria, 3 November 2014. Dissemination activity

      Dr. Rodrigo Ordonez from National University of Ireland, Maynooth, presented the new TEAM approach to enhance positioning of cars connected in mobile networks in the framework of the 3rd International Conference on Connected Vehicles in Vienna on November 6th, 2014. Information from stationary vehicles (i.e. stopped vehicles) has proven to be relevant in the performance analysis of Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs). A VANET turns every participating car into a wireless router or node, allowing cars to connect to each other and, in turn, to create a network with a wide range. Dr. Ordonez presented new strategies to increase accuracy for localization in such networks, using stationary vehicles as active nodes. The potential benefits range from enhancing the provision of location-related services, up to determining the availability of free parking lots.

    • Road Transport Information and Control (RTIC) Conference 2014

      During this event, Dr. Angelos Amditis from ICCS presented a paper about the Collaborative Public Transport Optimisation (CPTO) application being developed in the framework of the TEAM project. The main goal of the CPTO application is to improve the flexibility of the transport infrastructure in order to serve dynamically the demand of the cities and the citizens. This application focuses mainly on buses but its model can be extended to other means of transport, as well and it is closely related to the concept of "Demand Responsive Transport", which intends to serve the needs of modern cities.

      The TEAM project successfully presented at one of the world's leading conferences on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), the 21st ITS World Congress held in Detroit on September 2014. Specifically, TEAM organised Special Interest Session 45 (SIS45) focusing on Cooperative ITS Vehicle Architecture and Applications. During this special session, the project coordinator, Ilja Radusch, informed the attendees about the project latest advancements and initial results.

      A TEAM related paper focusing on developing and testing analytic techniques for fusing new types of user-generated data such as Smart Card, and Social Media data in order to improve the accuracy of Mobility Demand Prediction (MDP) and open new horizons in the area Travel Demand Forecasting have been presented by NEC partners during the Pan-American Conference of Traffic, Transportation Engineering and Logistics, in Spain. PANAM is the premier transportation conference in Latin-America aiming to provide a forum for the discussion and sharing of experiences related to transportation research. Since its inception in 1980, it is regularly attended by several hundred transportation researchers, senior decision makers and transportation professionals, including present and past Transportation Ministers, from nearly all countries in the Americas, Portugal, and Spain.

    • TEAM @ University of Genoa

      Genoa, Italy, 15 May 2014. Dissemination activity

      The TEAM project partners Luisa Andreone (Centro Ricerche FIAT) and Francesco Bellotti (University of Genoa) were invited by Prof. Allesandro De Gloria from Genoa University to give a lecture on the TEAM project. 40 students of the M. Sc. course in Electronic Engineering were highly interested in the topic "Location based services for drivers: the European project TEAM - TOMORROW'S ELASTIC ADAPTIVE MOBILITY".

      This lecture was twofold: during the first part it discussed the vision and objectives of the project and provided an inside view into enabling technologies. The applications as well as the evaluation steps were also showcased during this part of the lecture. The second part outlined the structure of European Commission funded projects and covered topics such as the design of a collaborative project, the selection of an adequate project structure and ways to organize the activities of different stakeholders involved.

      Sharing ideas and passing innovation on to the next generation of engineers and technicians helps to spread the spirit of the TEAM project: Through collaboration, individual and global mobility challenges can be addressed. Disseminating project results and sharing possibilities of EU funding are basic elements of European projects. Passing on knowledge to the next generation contributes to more sustainable research.

    • TEAM @ 6th European Road Safety Day

      Athens, Greece, 9 May 2014. Dissemination activity

      The European Commission, in cooperation with the Greek EU Presidency hosted the European Road Safety Day in Athens on 9th May 2014. This one-day conference, focused on the headline theme 'Safe and smart infrastructure', brought together road safety experts, stakeholders and decision-makers and gave them the opportunity to share their knowledge and discuss ways to continue improving European road safety.

      During this event two round table discussions took place focusing on infrastructure challenges and on technological solutions respectively. Attendees had also the opportunity to visit information stands where leading European road safety organisations presented their work.

      TEAM partner ICCS, as one of the exhibitors, had the chance to inform the participants on the TEAM project evolutions and expected impact while the TEAM factsheets and display cleaners where distributed to several stakeholders. The exhibition was also available one day before the Road Safety event, when the informal European Council Summit took place on the 9th of May. During that time, ICCS researchers networked with the Ministers of Transport from several EU member states and informed them on the work established in the framework of the TEAM project.

      The TEAM project coordinator Dr. Ilja Radusch, Fraunhofer FOKUS presented the TEAM project during the EC FP7 ICT Call 7 & 8 Concertation Workshop in Brussels.

      15 European projects were invited to present their latest achievements during two parallel sessions and explore potential synergies between their respective work. One session concentrated on ICT emission modelling, while TEAM was presented during the Multimodal optimisation modelling session.

      During the discussion the following fields of cooperation were identified:

      The TEAM project intends to use this active exchange of ideas and will strengthen the ties with related projects to cross-fertilise the research work.

      A TEAM scientific paper entitled "TEAM - CO2 Reduction through online Weather Assistant for Cooperative ACC Driving" had been presented in collaboration with the FernUniversität Hagen during the CICSyN 2013: 5th International Conference on Computational Intelligence, Communication Systems and Networks that held in Madrid on 5-7 June 2013 in the framework of 17-Q Vehicular Technology and Networks.

    • TEAM @ 9th ITS European Congress

      Around eight months after project start, TEAM participated actively in the this year's ITS European Congress ITS: Real Solutions for Real Needs.

      We presented the TEAM project and its main objectives at the EC booth to a broad number of interested congress visitors. Also, TEAM factsheets were distributed through EC booth during the whole exhibition duration.

      Furthermore, TEAM contributed actively to the Technical Session TS10: Modal shift and multimodality - ITS supporting better services with the paper presentation on how the motorcycle is included in the TEAM ITS world.

    • Project meeting in Athens

      Athens, 21 May 2013. TEAM members discussed the project progression and use cases.

      More than 50 TEAM experts met in Athens to exchange their ideas on the recently defined use cases.

      For three days, they analysed, among other things, the status of application development, for example the collaborative co-modal route planning and dynamic collaborative corridors.

      Moreover, the next steps towards study design analysis tools and collaborative optimization algorithms were discussed. Each sub-project held specific meetings and workshops to define the next steps and allocate responsibilities. The meeting was hosted by ICCS.

    • 1st stakeholder forum

      Berlin, Germany, 20 March 2013. Collecting experts' feedback on their requirements for applications to be successful and accepted

      TEAM conducted the 1st Stakeholder Forum - a platform for discussing the TEAM developments with experts and users and for collecting their feedback on the interim results.

      This 1st Stakeholder Forum was part of the selection process for the TEAM applications. For this reason internal stakeholders, were interviewed with an online survey and asked to provide their views on technical, financial, behavioural and legal issues in the context of the intended applications.

      The results of this 1st Stakeholder Forum will be available in the first public Deliverable D1.0 TEAM users, stakeholders and use cases.

    • Project meeting in Heidelberg

      Heidelberg, 12 February 2013. IP level project meeting.

      Instead of conducting various meeting at the work package level TEAM opted for a novel approach by conducting larger IP level meetings each lasting for three days.

      There each SP has two half days to discuss open issues. TEAM members with single SP involvement arrive on time to their SP days, others stay the whole time.

      With each SP in close relation to the other SPs, cross cutting issues are easily identified and solved.

    • TEAM project launched in Berlin

      Partners of the TEAM project met at the Fraunhofer Forum in Berlin to kick off the work on Tomorrow’s Elastic Adaptive Mobility.

      In various workshops and presentations they exchanged views about TEAM’s objectives, its organisational structure and the related technologies. “Elastic infrastructures will be the next big thing, so all the researchers of automation and automated driving once will need TEAM developed technologies to make it working.” emphasizes Daniel Zackrisson from Volvo Group and sub-project leader of SP2 EMPOWER.

      Hosted by Fraunhofer Fokus and EICT, 60 TEAM-members participated in the kick-off meeting on 15 and 16 November 2012. Within the upcoming 48 months, until October 2016, the European research project TEAM will create, test, demonstrate and evaluate a collaborative mobility system. It integrates smartphones as well as cloud based services to interlink drivers, travellers and infrastructure operators in real time.

      “With TEAM we are moving to the paradigm of collaboration”, says Luisa Andreone from Centro Ricerche Fiat, leading the sub-project SP4 DIALOGUE. In total, 27 partners combine their experience in R&D to accomplish the TEAM vision of an elastic and adaptive mobility.
